Are you an attorney who is passionate about advocating for immigrants?

Keen to find a job where your talents and efforts will be rewarded?

Up for a fast-paced work environment where excellence is required, but the quality of life is prioritized through a 40-hour workweek and an outstanding benefits package?

Speak fluent Spanish?

Live in the Houston or Miami area, or up for moving to one of those spots?

Willing to travel some for work?

If that's you, read on.

Political Asylum Lawyers is hiring an associate immigration lawyer.

You'll focus on asylum - both affirmative and defensive - but may also handle various other immigration matters.

You will have a full caseload, with responsibility for every aspect of the representation.

You will meet with prospective clients, do legal research, write briefs, develop case strategies, prepare clients for hearings and interviews, and represent them in immigration court and at the Asylum Office.

Apart from required in-person representation at hearings and interviews, this job will be done remotely. We’ll be in contact throughout the workday online, and you’ll be working from home. Interaction with clients will likewise be done virtually.

You will need a quiet, distraction-free atmosphere at home to set up shop.

You won't be micromanaged, so responsibility and initiative are of paramount importance in this position.

Experience with immigration law is preferred, but for the right candidate, lacking it won’t be a dealbreaker.

You must have demonstrated a commitment to advocating for immigrants or other vulnerable populations.

Your research, legal writing, and communication skills must be superb.

You must speak Spanish fluently and be comfortable using it professionally - you’ll likely use it every day on the job.

Travel required. You’ll need to travel throughout the country for immigration court hearings and asylum interviews. Expect at least one such trip per month, normally for just one night away.

In addition to a competitive salary, you will enjoy true work-life balance. Forty-hour weeks will be the norm, not the exception. Full benefits package, including 100% of premiums covered for top-notch health insurance plan, along with four weeks of vacation annually.

Salary from $85,000, but will be considerably more for candidates with relevant experience. Pay will increase quickly if you do an outstanding job.

To apply, please submit both a resume and a cover letter through the Wizehire application portal, linked to on the upper, right-hand side of this page. (Click on the yellow, "Apply on Employer's Site" button.)
