Iowa Attorney General Brenna Bird seeks an assistant attorney general to represent the Iowa Department of Transportation. The position is located at the Iowa Department of Transportation campus in Ames.
Attorneys representing the Iowa Department of Transportation are charged with providing all legal services for the Iowa DOT and acting as the legal advisors to the transportation commission and the director. This includes many areas of law including providing daily guidance to a state agency, contracts, human resources, open records requests, administrative rules, real estate, and licensing. These attorneys practice before administrative law judges, Iowa district courts, the Iowa Supreme Court and Court of Appeals, as well as on occasion in the federal district courts.
The ideal candidate will have experience and interest in civil litigation, including personal injury and property damage torts, contracts, and condemnations. This position will require courtroom and appellate work. There may be some travel, but over-night travel should be rare.
