Associate Attorney at an established downtown Des Moines firm. The Associate Attorney will assist with managing a diverse portfolio of cases. Responsibilities include meeting with clients to ascertain their needs, choosing the most appropriate course of action, and representing clients’ interests both inside and outside the courtroom. During the process, you will be required to collaborate with Partners and/or other supervising attorneys.
To be successful as an Associate Attorney, you should demonstrate outstanding research and writing skills. Ultimately, a top-notch Associate Attorney will exhibit at least some familiarity with all subspecialties of their field and will utilize this knowledge to successfully conclude cases, as needed.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Effectively establish, build, and maintain relationships with all assigned clients.
Interpret legislation, case law, and other sources to decide on a modus operandi, as necessary.
Draft legal documents, including but not limited to pleadings, discovery requests and responses, reports, file evaluations, legal memoranda, contracts, and motions.
Represent clients at depositions, mediations, arbitrations, hearings, and trials.
Participate in marketing and business development opportunities within the firm
Ensure that data obtained during interactions with clients remain confidential and are stored securely.
Maintain yearly billable hour requirement.
Remain abreast of changes to legislation and case law.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Accredited Law degree.
Licensed by the Iowa State Bar.
Ability to work independently.
Exceptional problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Strong organizational and time management skills, and ability to multi-task.
Basic knowledge of Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work easily with senior management and support staff.
