As the Senior Attorney – Hardware, Software & Connectivity for John Deere in Urbandale, IA, you will play a key role in the realization of this vision by providing legal counsel on the development, licensing, and global distribution of Deere’s embedded software, hardware, and connectivity solutions.
In addition, you will:
Lead the legal support of issues affecting electronic hardware developed by the John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group (ISG), including global import, use, and type approval regulations
Lead the legal support of ISG’s software development and delivery process, including the licensing of software, encryption regulations, and over-the-air software update strategies
Lead the legal support of Deere connectivity solutions, including radiofrequency licensing and usage, telematics devices, mobile connectivity, and Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS)
Advise on the licensing and use of Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS or drones), including counsel to John Deere Aviation, and monitoring and advising on global changes in UAS regulations
Collaborate with global GLSG and Public Affairs colleagues to monitor and comply with global regulations and impending legislation that may impact Deere's Hardware, Software, Connectivity, and UAS initiatives
Stay current on emerging trends in electronic hardware, software, connectivity, and UAS law through continuing legal education, industry publications, and participation in professional conferences and associations

What Skills You Need
Experience analyzing global regulatory requirements and obtaining approvals for electronic hardware
Experience advising on the licensing of embedded software
Experience advising on telecommunications/radio spectrum licensing and regulations, including interaction with national regulatory agencies such as the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC)
8 or more years in the practice of law in a private law firm or corporate law department
Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally up to 25%
