University of Iowa Health Care seeks a risk manager. UI Health Care is a leading academic medical center comprised of the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, University of Iowa Stead Family Children’s Hospital, Carver College of Medicine, University of Iowa Physicians, and University of Iowa Health System. Reporting to the chief legal counsel for UI Health Care, the risk manager will be responsible for identifying, tracking, and mitigating risk across UI Health Care and its affiliated entities. As part of a collaborative team, this position will perform a broad range of health care risk management services in a fast-paced environment. Duties may include working with the quality/safety program to identify, investigate, and respond to risk issues to promote safe patient care and staff safety; apply enterprise risk methodologies to analyze and measure risk using data; collaborate and consult on complaints/concerns identified by Office of Patient Experience; facilitate event reporting with a focus on incidents involving harm or potential liability; work with the quality/safety program and clinical teams to identify opportunities for improvement; propose and implement solutions to risk-related issues; collaborate with UI Risk Management and Iowa Attorney General regarding institution insurance programs and assist in management of claims against the organization’s insurance; collaborate with legal counsel and insurance company claims representatives; and assist in risk management training and educational programs. A successful candidate will possess: integrity, dependability, excellent judgment, strong analytical and problem-solving skills, discretion, excellent writing, communication (writing and presentation) skills, organizational skills, be a good listener with a positive attitude, attention to detail, have the ability to interact with many individuals at a professional level, and be able to effectively meet deadlines while handling conflicting priorities. Requirements include a BS/BA degree in health care, STEM, or risk management/insurance related field. Minimum 3 years relevant experience required. The ideal candidate has proven ability to adjust quickly to shifting priorities, multiple demands, ambiguity and rapid change. Experience working in a hospital or other health care organization, with risk management best practices, with operational risk and governance preferred.
