The Trademark Docket Clerk provides support in docketing. This position requires attention to detail; the ability and willingness to docket and maintain records accurately and according to established Firm policies and procedures. As a team member of the Docket Department, it is essential to work in alignment with Docketing team members and work towards the reduction or elimination of risk to the firm. Confidentiality and discretion must be maintained with clients, attorneys and staff.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Dockets new trademark application filings, incoming office actions, formalities and any and all other correspondence related to the filing, prosecution, opposition and litigation of trademark matters;
Updates the docket daily based on incoming/outgoing correspondence received from the USPTO, international trademark offices; and foreign agents;
Retrieves and processes emails from the centralized trademark in-box daily and dockets information in the docketing database;
Updates the docketing database for transfer-in and transfer-out matters; and changes in client information;
Provides quality review for entry level trademark staff;
Attends weekly trademark group meetings relating to the management of projects, database management or docketing policy and procedures;
Provides research for pending matters using electronic research tools; and
Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:
In depth knowledge of domestic and international trademark;
Ability to interface with U.S. Patent and Trademark Office website regarding trademark matters;
Demonstrates a “can do” attitude and initiative to assist on a variety of projects;
Ability and willingness to work within a team environment;
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate and follow instructions effectively from a diverse group of attorneys, staff, team members and management while providing information with courtesy and tact both verbal and written;
Ability to compose, proofread and edit (e.g., punctuation, grammar, spelling) routine internal communications;
Ability to multi-task, work independently with minimal supervision, work under pressure with high-quality results;
Strong attention to detail and high level of accuracy of work-product;
Strong analytical skills; and
Ability to search various websites, including familiarity and knowledge of social media sites in order to gather information to support filings for trademark matters.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
College degree preferred; and 3-5 years of trademark docketing experience required;
Experience with docket software applications such as Pattsy, Foundation IP, Anaqua preferred.
