As the Legal Personnel and Recruitment Specialist, you will contribute to the excellent and consistent delivery of the legal personnel and recruiting related functions in the West Coast offices including, but not limited to, all aspects of attorney recruiting and hiring, and the summer associate program. You will exercise discretion and independent judgment while working under the Regional Legal Personnel and Recruitment Manager.
The Legal Personnel and Recruitment Specialist should contribute to the firm's Service Excellence initiative to consistently improve its image internally and externally, and display professionalism, quality service and a "can do" attitude to internal members/departments of the firm as well as external clients and vendors via electronic and print correspondence, over the telephone and in-person.
Partners with manager to lead the lateral hiring process for the West Coast and Denver offices including sourcing and reviewing resumes, scheduling and preparing for interviews, compiling candidate evaluations, tracking of all lateral recruiting information and statistics, greeting candidates, preparing offers, conducting diligence process, and communicating with search firms and candidates.
Law School and Judicial Clerk Recruitment
In collaboration with the larger team, effectively and efficiently leads the law school student recruitment process for the Los Angeles and Denver offices including supporting efforts for the firm’s branding initiatives and targeted law school communications;
Facilitates selection and scheduling of law schools for campus interviews; scheduling students and attorney interviewers for on-campus and in-office interviews; collecting and reviewing interview feedback and facilitating hiring decision process with the Hiring Committee; participating in follow-up activity and assessing effectiveness of follow-up activity with offerees;
Coordinates recruitment receptions, offer dinners and functions, both in-house and on-campus for assigned schools; coordinating diversity presentations and receptions on-campus and related outreach to student groups;
Responsible for ensuring the accuracy of recruitment and interview process data and assisting with Affirmative Action plan compliance and reporting; drafting, processing and filing related recruitment correspondence; running background checks for all new hires and discussing any issues with Managing Director, Legal Personnel; compiling and analyzing recruitment statistics both in preparation for and during recruitment season for Hiring Committee meetings and ongoing for general firm metrics reporting and external survey purposes.
Aids in the effective engagement and ongoing relationship building with law schools and law student groups throughout the calendar year (e.g., panel presentations for 1Ls, events and sponsorship opportunities, communications, etc.).
Facilitates the recruitment of judicial clerks.
Has significant budget responsibility with respect to law school recruitment efforts similar to those articulated with the summer program.
Summer Associate Program
Collaboratively designs, manages and evaluates all aspects of the Summer Associate Program including, pre-arrival processes and communications, orientation, mentoring program with partners and associates, social and community service events, diversity events and initiatives, educational and special firm programming.
Coordinates with Hiring Partners, Summer Program Co-Chairs, and Practice Managers to generate interest and solicit substantive summer associate work assignments and observational opportunities from the firm’s practice areas and pro bono programs.
Manages workload reporting system and evaluation process for summer associates within legal recruitment management software system.
Under the Career Advancement Program, supports the implementation of lawyer evaluation, retention, compensation and promotion programs and ensures excellent delivery of services regarding same.
Provides local support of the Associates, Senior Associates and Counsel Committees.
Coordinates orientation, onboarding, integration, offboarding and outplacement programs and efforts in the Los Angeles office. Collaborates with department and office leadership regarding lawyer headcount.
Supports of the efforts of the Work-Life Balance Committee, Women’s Leadership Initiative, Diversity Committee and the Associates Committee Task Force (ACTF) in the Los Angeles office.
Assists with employee issues, serving as a resource and providing counsel, when appropriate, to all attorneys on leaves, time off, and policy related questions.
Responsible for the arrival and departure processes for all attorneys in the Los Angeles office, including orientation, internal preparations, communications, liaising with various firm departments, and other necessary activities to ensure all attorneys are successfully integrated into the firm. Provides general on-the-ground support for Professional Development programs and processes in Los Angeles as needed.
Assists in drafting the annual Recruitment budget for the Los Angeles office. Ensures the budget aligns with the firm’s strategic goals, objectives and initiatives. Audits and pays all vendor bills and other expenses related to Legal Recruitment in accordance with firm policy and the recruitment budget, including candidate reimbursements, recruitment fees, agency fees, etc. Anticipates and works to resolve discrepancies.
Solid attention to detail, excellent written and analytical skills, ability to take initiative and ability to meet deadlines are required.
Excellent oral communication and inter-personal skills required.
Ability to work in a collegial cross-office team environment is critical. Motivation and drive are important.
Successful time management skills are required.
Strong technical skills on the following applications preferred: Excel, PowerPoint, Microsoft Outlook 2010, LawCruit, viDesktop or other Talent Management systems.
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience is required.
Minimum of 5 years of relevant professional services experiences in recruitment or personnel required.
Legal recruiting or HR Generalist experience preferred.
