The Hartford office of Shipman & Goodwin LLP, a law firm with more than 175 attorneys in CT, NY and D.C., has an exciting opportunity for a New Business/Conflicts Analyst (“NBCA”) to assist attorneys with their compliance requirements and professional responsibility obligations. The NBCA will create, review, analyze and summarize conflict search reports associated with the new business intake process to identify and help resolve potential conflicts of interest. The NBCA will communicate with attorneys responsible for matters that present a potential conflict, evaluate the information obtained and assist with the resolution of conflicts issues that arise with prospective new business and in the lateral attorney hiring process. Using various legal, business and other online databases to conduct research, the NBCA will perform client due diligence; will assist in the creation and maintenance of conflict waiver letters and with maintaining other information important to the engagement such as Outside Counsel Guidelines, client specific terms and conditions, engagement letters and the like; and will work with the New Business Intake Manager to manage the new business intake workflow process.
A Bachelor’s degree or prior paralegal experience is strongly preferred and a minimum of three years of prior law firm work experience related to conflicts checking and/or new business intake is required. The ideal candidate must have knowledge and familiarity of automated workflow for intake and conflict software, preferably utilizing Aderant or Intapp. The NBCA must demonstrate critical thinking, strong judgment and problem solving skills and must be familiar with and knowledgeable about the Rules of Professional Responsibility/Conduct and regulations as they pertain to conflicts and conflicts resolution in law firms. The successful candidate will possess keen attention to detail, a client service mindset, excellent written and oral communication skills and have a strong technical background with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel.
